Potayto Playlist!

Note: This is a guest post by my bestie Potayto. He told me he had better suggestions and he was actually kind enough to write a whole post for the blog! You rock, Dude! :D

Um..Hello. My name's Yanew aka DaPotayto and I’ll be your guest blogger for the day. Thank you Smiles for letting me write you a proper playlist instead of another one of your lame and girly ones
Any-banana, let’s get to it, shall we?
I’ll be filling Shynah’s categories with choices of my own
First up,

The Motivational Song:
Hall Of Fame –The Script ft. Will.I.Am

This song is simply everything you ever wanted to hear when you feel worthless rolled into another masterpiece by The Script. The message is simple. You Are Awesome. Listen and listen well 'cause it will pick you up from whatever deep dark hole you’re hiding in.
“Yeah, You could be the greatest
You can be the best
You can be the King Kong banging on your chest
You could beat the world
You could beat the war
You could talk to God, go banging on his door”

The Sad Song
How To Save A Life –The Fray

I’ll put it bluntly. This song is depressing as hell! Beautifully written and overflowing with sadness, this is one tear jerking story told by The Fray. A must-listen-to song.
“Where did I go wrong?
I’ve lost a friend.
Somewhere along in the bitterness,
And I would have stayed up with you all night,
Had I known how to save a life”

The Happy Song
Yellow-Coldplay
This song, particularly when Chris Martin messes around with it live, never fails to put a smile on face. Coldplay has a knack for writing music so original and so amazing both lyrically and melodically! No wonder their audiences love em! Coldplay is awesome!!!
“Look at the stars.
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.
Yeah, they were all yellow.”

The Post Break Up Song
Drunk –Ed Sheeran

Shiny’s last post had a song about being better after a break up but this one, is quite different Ed is still utterly heart broken and drowns himself in alcohol to see if he can find happiness at the bottom of a beer bottle. Depressing? Yes. Ed Sheeran’s magical voice and amazing lyrics? Also yes! Hats off to you Ginger Jesus!
“But our house gets cold when you cut the heating
Without you to hold I'll be freezing
Can't rely on my heart to beat it
'Cause you take part of it every evening
Take words out of my mouth just from breathing
Replace with phrases like when you're leaving me.”

TV Series Theme Music
I’ll Be There For You (FRIENDS) –The Rembrandts covered by Boyce Avenue.

Yes. I’ve never actually watched Friends, but I’ve seen 2 or 3 episodes so, meh. What I do know is that Boyce Avenue has posted a gorgeous rendition of the show’s theme on Youtube which ya’ll have to check out right now! After doing so, check out everything else by Boyce Avenue. They be awesome!!!
“It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week
Your month, or even your year
I'll be there for you”
Yes you, you pudgy raccoon!  Always.

The Sentimental Song
Like We Used To –A Rocket To The Moon

Testament to a true gentleman. Girl leaves him for a different guy but all he cares about is her happiness. Put your headphones on, close your eyes and listen. Sentimental is the only word I use to describe this one.
“Will he love you like I loved you?
Will he tell you every day?
Will he make you feel like you're invincible with every word he'll say?”

The Medley
Maroon5 Medley –Kurt Hugo Schneider ft. Max Schneider and Victoria Justice
When it comes to medleys, there is no one better than the awe-inspiring Kurt Hugo Schneider. The lyrics are wonderfully connected and the music is pretty darn good. The video is also awesome! Check it out!

Party Song
Who Let the Dogs Out –Baha Men

This song is quite old and is not all that mainstream but when it comes to awesome party songs, this takes the cake! It’s just so much fun to listen to!

Hola! Heartfelt apologies for leaving you stranded at the gates of Botanic Garden for two whole weeks!
Ready to venture into the unknown? :P lol

So I went through the gates, walked on this awesome foot path.

The first thing I saw were the huge trees from far, then I spotted this sign board thingy and I went near it. It had the map of the whole  botanic garden (if my memory serves right).

Walk, walk and there were these gorgeous, unique plants with all kinds of flowers on them. Honestly, you have to be there to see the real beauty, because the camera doesn't do the scenery justice.

It was pretty cool, the walk I mean. When I entered the Botanic Garden, all I knew was that it was real big and it had a lot of different species of plants. When I went there, I knew it had a Children's garden, a Visitor Centre, an Orchid garden, Swan Lake, Ginger Garden, Healing Garden, Evolution Garden and a Botany Centre, among other things!
Also, I didn't get lost in the HUGE place because there were signs leading us to wherever we wanted to go in all the footpaths.

It felt a bit like I was playing treasure hunt, because there were all sorts of roads (foot paths) leading to all the places and I had to choose which treasure (place) I wanted to go, so I had to follow the clues (signs) in the maze like place, enjoying the different types of colourful flowers, big and small, with the most variety of plants of multi colours I have ever seen in my life (until I entered the Orchid Garden ;)) that lined the footpaths. Every single plant on the way was worth taking a picture of! I had my camera,   a camera Matt so generously lent me (because mine didn't charge properly the previous night so it didn't have enough charge!) and my phone (which ofcourse had crapy photo quality! This was my previous phone. The one I'm having right now is so amazing! :D). I kept alternating between cameras because both of them were low on charge.

I came across this really cute pond which had a tiny man-made waterfall behind it. That was so beautiful! The most beautiful place I went to that day! It was so magical, with grass all around it, water lily in the pond giving company to the multi-coloured fishes there and unique plants growing all around the pond!

My main destination was the Orchid Garden, so I didn't run off on other routes that would take me to other places (lucky for me, the pond was on the way! :D). Unfortunately, I had entered the Botanic Garden from the side opposite to the one where Orchid Garden was. So it was a looooooong loooooong walk to the place. I finally reached the Orchid Garden at around 8 pm and by then it was really dark and the Orchid garden was closed. (The sun sets at around 7pm in Singapore, which is different from Maldives, where the sun sets at almost 6pm! ;))

It was such a disappointment that I didn't get to see the place after such a long walk (the longest walk I  ever took in my entire life! When I tell you the place is big, it's bigger than an average island of Maldives!)

By then, I was starving so I went off in search of a cafe' or a restaurant or a food place. The closest food place was some time away and again, I followed the signs to it. I passed restaurants which were closed, but they were near the man-made tiny waterfalls which had garden lights in the water, which made them look so serene and magical! It was then that I wished I had a DSLR so I could capture the magic! It is a sight that would be forever engraved in my mind!
This is the place during day time

This is just part of it with only one light. It was wayy better than this!

When I finally reached the food place, there were Chinese, Singaporean and Indian food places there, all next to each other. I went to the Indian place and ordered some Noodles because honestly, I was dead tired and starving so I wasn't in a mood to experiment with new cuisines! (And my past experience with Chinese food in London kept me away from them!) But when I got the food, before I could eat, I saw these magnificent flowers! yes, they were BIG and they were colourful, and it was gorgeous! I just HAD to snap some pictures  of them before actually sitting down to eat ;)

I got pineapple juice and some water for the long walk ahead and started walking. I had to ask several people for directions as to where I would find the closest bus stop. It was some walk, I tell you! Especially since my feet  hurt from wearing these uncomfortable shoes the whole day! I finally took off my shoes, pretended I'ma tourist walking on the sandy beaches of Maldives and started walking. Even at 9pm, when I was going all alone, through deserted roads which were so dark that I had to use my phone to light up the path, the people who saw me didn't even look at me, let alone harass me  like they would  have if this was Fuvahmulah or something! My respect for Singapore grew then.

I asked a couple of joggers and they pointed the way. I finally got out of the maze and found a bus stop. I got on a bus that would take me to Clementi Market. (I've been to Clementi Market before with Iko so I know it's near home ;)) By then I was soo tired I was sure I could sleep all day! I was dozing off even on the bus.

When I got off at Clementi Market, I didn't know which bus to take next, so I called Iko. But when she didn't pick up, I realised that it must be because she was volunteering. (She did mention something about it!) So I called Matt. He was most helpful! He gave me the bus number that I should take.

When I finally reached home, I was so exhausted that I slept immediately!

That is the end of Day 3 in Singapore. Are you ready for Day 4? Bet you are tired from all that walking! Rest well, for we have another tiring yet fun day ahead. Hope to tell you all about it next Monday!

Ciao! ZZZZZzzzzz

TV Series Obsession!

This week, I am going to write about a series that has been over for quite some time now. Battlestar Galactica! It's fourth and final season was aired on 2009, and why am I writing about such an outdated series you ask? Well, for one thing, there is going to be a second spin-off series- Battlestar Galactica -Blood & Chrome- to be aired next month and secondly, no matter how old it is, if it's intriguing and exciting, why not watch it, right? ;) So, finish watching all the previous episodes of Battlestar Galactica before the new sibling series starts! Here's your guide as how to watch it! ::D

Well, firstly, there was an original TV series, a sequel and adapted books, games and such back in the 80's, but let's not go back that far, shall we? Sticking to the 21st century, a remake of Battlestar Galactica was aired in December 2003 and that;s where we are going to start! :D

So before you start watching the first episode of the first series, if you want to understand what is happening, make sure you watch the two-part, three hour mini-series of it!

Cast

Battlestar Galactica in alll it's glory!

Backdoor Pilot episodes of the mini-series:
From the ancestral world f Kobol, a human civilisation migrates to a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. But the Twelve Colonies were at war with the advance forms of robots known as Cylons. Some Cylons are so advanced that they take the shape of humans and live with humans, without being detected, their goal being to exterminate the whole of human civilisation! A famous scientist, Gaius Baltar is seduced by a Cylon he fell in love with, namely Number Six, and aids  her to bring about the destruction of the Twelve Colonies with the help of a surprise nuclear attack. Most of the human population was wiped off, and almost all the battleships of the Colonial fleet were rendered useless or destroyed due to a computer malware introduced by Six. It's technologies being a bit old fashioned, Battlestar Galactica was the only battleship that survived the malware. Commander William Adama of Battlestar Galactica assumes control over the human fleets. Secretary of Education, Laura Roslin (43rd in line of succession!) is sworn as the president of the Twelve Colonies because the President and everyone who had a bigger chance of being the President were killed in the nuclear attack. The starship that she travels in is Colonial One.

Important Female characters

Only a few of the ships had the ability to complete Faster-Than-Light (FTL) jumps and so Roslin is forced to abandon those ships that didn't have this ability and meet Commander Bill Adama at the rendezvous point, Ragnar Anchorage. There, an arms-dealer suffers from the radiation, while the humans aren't affected at all. This leads Bill Adama to the conclusion that he must be a Cylon, and humans came to know of the existence of the new model of Cylons that look and feel the same as humans. Gaius Baltar is appinted as one of the senior advisors to President Roslin, since nobody was aware of Baltar's treason.

Baltar has visions of Six and eventhough he isn't sure how he was getting these visions, Six had indicated that she might have implanted a microchip in his brain while he was asleep, which lets her transmit her image to Baltar. She suggested to him that Aaron Doral, a public relations specialist might also be a Cylon. When Baltar informs this, Doral is left stranded on Ragnar when Galactica left, despite the lack of evidence to prove that Doral is indeed a Cylon.

Cylons attack Ragnar and the Colonial Fleet jumps to a faraway, unexplored area in the galaxy. Commander Adama tells the fleet that they know the way to the Thirteenth Colony, Earth. However he is forced to admit to the President privately that he just announced that to boost up morale, and they had no idea where to go to next.

Doral's identity as a Cylon is confirmed as a group of Cylons that include the metal Cylon Centurions, multiple copies of Six, Doral and the arms-dealer go to Ragnar to retrieve him. At the end of the two part mini series, a Colonial fighter aboard Galactica, Sharon Valerie (call-sign) Boomer is shown to be a Cylon as well, as a copy of her is included in the Cylon group that went to Ragnar.

Well, that's all I'm going to tell you, because, if you haven't already watched it, giving a season by season account would be a total spoiler! ;)

Watch Battlestar Galactica to see if the human race survived and reached Earth as they were hoping to, or did all of the human population just die in the every 33rd minute attack by the Cylons! Happy Watching! :D

Just Press Play!

So, here's this week's dose of music for you, and I added another category! ;)
I love these songs and I hope you would too! :D

The Motivational Song:
Who Says- Selena Gomez

I just soo love this song! The lyrics is super awesome! Just hearing it would boost up your self confidence! :D  the song itself is pretty catchy and it was stuck in my mind for quite a while. I liked the video as well, specially her gorgeous black dress, and the "Beautiful Sinc '92" part (I can so relate! :D)

"Wouldn't wanna be anybody else!"
"I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me!"
"You've got every right to a beautiful life
C'mon
Who says, Who says you are not perfect?
Who says you are not worth it?
Who says you are the only one that's hurting?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you are not pretty?
Who says you are not beautiful?
Who says?"

"Who says you're not star potential?
Who says you're not presidential?
Who says you can't be in movies?
Listen to me, Listen to me
Who says you don't pass the test?
Who says you can't be the best?"

The Sad Song:
Before the Storm- Miley Cyrus/ Nick Jonas

There's something about this song. I am not sure exactly what, but if I listen to it once, I wouldn't be able to stop listening to it. It makes me feel sad, and as a general rule, I don't listen to songs that make me sad,( because I'm this bubbly person and I get bored of staying depressed after a little while) but I just can't stop listening to it! Their voices are so sad, the lyrics is sad and even the music is sad! But it's totally worth it!

"I'm standing here but you don't see me
I'd give it all for that to change

And I don't wanna lose her
Don't wanna let her go

Standing out in the rain
Need to know if it's over
Cause I'll leave you alone

I'm flooded with all this pain,
Knowing I'll never hold her
Like I did, before the storm"

"They always say, a heart is not a home
Without the one who gets you through the storm"

"Standing out in the rain
Knowing that it's really over
Please don't leave me alone! (I'm at tears by this point!)

I'm flooded with all this pain,
Knowing I'll never hold ya
Like I did, before the storm"

The Happy Song:
You Found Me- Kelly Clarkson
This is a song I heard pretty recently, even though the song isn't that recent. I immediately felt happy, the minute I heard it! She's describing what they had gone through together, and that feels so awesome! Love the lyrics, the music, but mostly, love her! :D

"You found me, when no one else was looking
How did you know just where I would be?
Yeah, you broke through all my confusions
The ups and the downs and you still didn't leave
I guess that you saw what nobody could see
You found me!"

The Post Break Up Song:
What Doesn't Kill You -Kelly Clarkson-

I love the lyrics, they make me feel powerful. The video is cool too, she dyed her hair black and she definitely pulls off brunette ;) The music is strong, and just by listening to it, I feel hopeful, like things aren't as bad as they seem ;) Would definitely make a person who has gone through a tough break up more sure of themselves! :D

"You think you've got the best of me
Think you've had the last laugh
Bet you think that everything good is gone
Think you've left me broken down
Think that I;d come running back
Baby, you don't know me, cause you're dead wrong!"

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes you fighter
Footsteps even lighter
Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone"

The TV Series Theme Music:
Merlin

Well, Merlin gets the honour of being the 1st to be featured in this category because I am currently watching Merlin. It's theme music is so soothing, calming, relaxing! After the excitement of the beginning of an episode, hearing the theme music relaxes me. It has an ancient feel to it, the Royal, Ancient, feel! In a nutshell? AWESOME! :D

The Sentimental Song:
Ready, Set, Don't Go -Miley Cyrus/ Billy Ray Cyrus-

This song makes me so sentimental because this is about Miley growing up and leaving to make her dreams come true, and her Daddy isn't ready to let go of her. I can so relate! I am about to leave for Australia in a month, for 6 whole years, coming home only for the holidays, once a year. I've never been gone away from home for that long! This song feels like a conversation between me and my dad, because even though I'm 20, my Dad still sees me as his little girl, and I'm gonna miss it!

"() indicates them singing together"
[Billy]: Shes gotta do what shes gotta doAnd I've got to like it or notShes got dreams to big for this townAnd she needs to give them a shotWherever they are[Miley]: Looks like Im all ready to leaveWith nothing left to pack[Billy]: Aint no room for me in that carEven if she asks me to tag along(God I gotta be strong)
[Miley]: Im at the startin lineFor the rest of my lifeAs ready as I’ve ever beenGot the hunger and stars in my eyesThe prize is mine to win[Billy]: Shes waitin on my blessingsBefore she hits that open roadBaby get ready get set don’t go
[Miley]: Looks like things are fallin in place[Billy]: Feels like there fallin apartI painted this big old smile on my faceTo hide my broken heart, if only she knew[Miley]: This is where you don’t say what you want so bad to say[Billy]: This is where I want to but I wont get in the wayOf her in her dreams and spreading her wings
*Miley is the the backgrounds singing "im ready to fly"[Miley]: Im at the startin lineFor the rest of my lifeAs ready as I’ve ever beenGot the hunger and stars in my eyesThe prize is mine to win[Billy]: Shes waitin on my blessingsBefore she hits that open roadBaby get ready get set (don’t go)
[Miley]: Im at the startin lineFor the rest of my lifeAs ready as I’ve ever beenGot the hunger and stars in my eyesThe prize is mine to win[Billy]: Shes waitin on my blessingsBefore she hits that open roadBaby get ready get set please don’t go
[Billy]: Don't go[Miley]: Let me go now im ready[Billy]: Mmmm Don't go[Miley]: I’ll be alright, I’ll be okayYou know that ill be thinking ofYou each and every day[Billy]: Shes gotta do what shes gotta do[Miley]: Let me go now[Billy]: Shes gotta do what shes gotta do[Miley]: I've gotta do what I've gotta do*sings "fly" while fading*[Billy]: *says "shes gotta do" while fading*

The Medley:
Rihanna Medley ft Matisse

Totally love this medley, because it includes some of the most popular songs of Rihanna and the way they are brought together is just amazing! Like her voice as well! :D

The Party Song:
On The Floor -J Lo Ft Pitbull

I don't think you would need much of a review about this song, since you might have already hear of it! Fact is, I can't help dancing when I hear this song! Listen to it and see if it has the same effect on you! :D

Keep dancing! :D

Bippity Boppity Boo! :D

I know, it's a weird title for a post! Well, this is just a random post, not connected or linked to any other post. So I was thinking of a random word to enhance the randomness of this post, and this was the first thing that came to my mind! Yeah, I AM a huge believer in fairytales ;) Like they say, you gotta dream it to achieve it! :D

Firstly, here's a little magic for all the wonderful readers, for being so awesome! We can all use some magic in our lives! :D

This is just to thank all my readers for your support, comments and suggestions. Your feedback is what inspires me! :D And I'm thanking you today specially because for the first time a post of mine has gotten more than 100 viewers and on last count, it has 180 views. Also, I had a count of 150 page views yesterday! It might not be a huge deal for the regular bloggers, but since I'm a total newbie here, and it has been exactly 1 month and 16 days since I started blogging, it means a lot to me~!

So once again, Thank You! And let me remind you again that I am so looking forward for your input on how to make my posts better! Much Love~! :D

Just Press Play!

Here is the collection for last week, and because I missed the deadline, I added some extra categories, as an apology! ;)

Happy listening! :D

The Motivational Song:
Firework- Katy Perry

The video and lyrics is just awesome (I specially liked the fireworks bursting out of them! :) )and the song is very sing-along-able! :D

"Do you know that there is till a chance for you,
Cuz there's a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night, like the fourth of July!"

"If you only knew what the future holds,
After a hurricane, comes a rainbow
Maybe the reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open the one that leads you to the perfect road!"

The Sad Song:
When You are gone- Avril lavigne

This is an all-time favourite. Eventhough I've heard it a million times, when I sing it or hear it, still brings me close to tears. The video is very touching, specially the part where the soldier leaves his pregnant wife to go fight in a war and the old lady dying, leaving her husband all alone!

"When you walk away I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now?
When you are gone, the pieces of my heart are missing you
When you are gone, the face I came to know is missing too"

The Happy Song:
Love Story- Taylor Swift

This has been a favourite ever since I heard it-  the reason I started listening to Taylor Swift, literally!
When I sing the chorus, I can't help but smile. That warm, fuzzy feeling I get, it's awesome! The best part is:

"I got tired of waiting,
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading

When I met you on the outskirts of town and I said,
Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think

He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said (:D)
Marry me, Juliet
You'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your Dad, go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby, just say yes!"

The Post Break Up Song:
It's alright, It's OK -Ashley Tisdale-

I really like this song, because it's about recovering from a break up. She knows she's strong and that she would survive. This song makes me smile! And the music is very head-nod-able! :D

"No looking back
I wont regret, no
I will find my way
I'm broken
But I still have to say

It's alright, it's OK
I'm so much better without you
I won't be sorry
It's alright, OK
So don't you bother what I do
No matter what you say
I won't return
Our bridge has burned down
I'm stronger now"

The Sentimental Song:
I'll always remember you -Miley Cyrus/ Hannah Montana-

This song reminds me of school, all the friends and the fun we had together, specially in A'level. Being in the same class for almost 5years brought us closer than ever, and all the things we shared throughout the school life flashes infront of me when I hear this song. It makes me miss school! I sang part of this song at my graduation speech and those who were there would know that I was almost in tears when I finished. Yes, it makes me sentimental!

"I always knew this day would come
We'd be standing one by one
With our future in our hands
So many dreams, so many plans

I always knew after all these years
There'd be laughter, there'd be tears
But never thought I'd walk away,
With so much joy but so much pain
And it's so hard to say goodbye

But yesterday's gone, we gotta keep moving on
I'm so thankful for the moments
So glad I gotta know you
The times that we had, I'll keep like a photograph
And hold you in my heart forever
I'll always remember you!"

"Another chapter in the book
You can't go back, but you can look
And there we are on every page
Memories I'll always save
Up ahead on the open doors
Who knows what we're headed towards
I wish you love, I wish you luck
For you the world just opens up"

"Everyday that we had, all the good, all the bad, I'll keep them here inside
Yeah, one day we'll look back, we'll smile and we'll laugh
But right now we just cry
Cause it's so hard to say goodbye!"

The Medley:
Bruno Mars Medley- Victoria Justice & Max Schneider-

This is such an awesome medley of Bruno Mars songs! The way they change the songs from one to the other is so amazing, their voices are wonderful, and they are cute! And... you get it! ;) And of course all the credit goes to Potayto. He was the one who introduced medleys to me, and he suggested this one as the very first medley to be featured on my blog. :D Salute Potayto! xD

The Party Song:
Party Rock Anthem -LMFAO-

Love the music!!! And the part where they say, "Everyday I'm shuffling" and the music that follows!! Can't stand still when I hear the song! Shuffle people, Shuffle! :D

*Schyna shuffled away*
