National Day celebrations in Fuvahmulah! :D

I already posted a mixture of feelings and thoughts regarding the National Day, but my post about National Day wouldn't have been complete unless I told you about the celebrations in Fuvahmulah, right? ;)

So, the night before National Day, on 12th January, we had the "Approval of Budget of Fuvahmulah Atoll Council for the year 2013" ceremony. Here's how the ceremony went:

Since the following day was National Day, the organisers of the ceremony wanted to put some national colours in it, so they asked the Principal to give a speech on the subject, which was very insightful. I fully supported his words. He pointed out that, despite each household in the whole of Fuvahmulah, which has around 11,500 citizens, receiving an invitation for the ceremony, only about 100 people actually attended the ceremony and that it showed that we didn't care much about the work of our policy makers, even though their decisions would affect us all. He mentioned that we can't ask our children to love our country and to be patriotic if we aren't and that we should set better examples for the next generation.

And how do I know this program by heart, because I was the compère and I had to go through the whole program at least twice, rewriting it! :D

On the morning of National Day, there was a special flag hoisting ceremony at 5.45, which I missed because I overslept, having slept late the night before and being tired because of the preparations for the celebrations! Pity, I know, I was really looking forward to attending it! But here are some pictures to show how it went. And again, everyone who attended noted out how little cooperation we received from the people of Fuvahmulah. Seriously people, you need to be more involved in such social activities. (I know I don't deserve the right to say such stuff, seeing as how I missed it, but I DO take part in most of the activities, so there ;) ) Remember the good old times when ( none of us would actually remember this, but if you read Dhivehi stories and accounts of Maldivian Scholars, you'd know this ;)) if one household built a boat, the whole island would cook meals and take them to the spot where the boat is supposed to be first immersed in water! Where is that oneness now? 

Alright, enough with the questions and dwellings. There was an "Athugulhaalun" in the evening, which means lots of people would hold hands together to show our unity and oneness! Shiakko, Potayto, his friend Usher and I were going to attend it. But by the time Potayto was convinced that Iyad, another of his friends, wasn't joining us, it was over. We were on our way to the Fuvahmulah Stadium when we met the people who attended it leave. So we changed our course and went off to the beach to see the sunset. Not very patriotic, but a celebration, in our own unique way! ;) Unfortunately, there were some clouds and Potayto claimed that the sunset wasn't as beautiful as it was the day before (Him and Iyad have this habit of going to see the sunset almost every day! I envy them! ;)) But we had fun, nonetheless!

TV Series Obsession!

If you don't already know, I am totally addicted to TV series. No, not the over dramatic Hindi stuff that comes from Zee TV or such, but English series! I have lost count of the number of series I have watched and I thought it might be a good idea to write about them! :D

Well, I thought the 1st one should be something I so enjoyed watching and something which has already finished. ;) So here's one of my favourite TV series of all times, Chuck! It contains 5 seasons and the last episode of the last season was aired on 27th January 2012 (almost a year ago, so you might think, how outdated! But still, it totally makes up for it by the comedy and suspense! :D)

Season 1 (13 episodes):

Bryce Larkin, Chuck Bartowski (the lead)'s nemesis, sends an email to Chuck, which, when he opens does something to  him. That something? Downloading the whole of US governments spy secret (Intersect) into his brain! Because of the sensitivity of the information in the Intersect, CIA sends their agent Sarah Walker and NSA  sends John Casey to retrieve it! Season 1 shows how Chuck learns to use the Intersect to his advantage, and becoming a spy in the process. But he finds it hard that he has to keep his spy life a secret from his sister, Ellie, who he lives with and his best friend since childhood, Morgan. Because Sarah and Casey always have to be around Chuck, Casey's cover was an employee at the Buy More where, Chuck works as a part of the Nerd Herd, it's tech support team. Sarah's cover is being Chuck's girlfriend and towards the end of the season, both of them realise that their feelings for each other are more than just a cover. :D

Season 2 (22 episodes):

So Chuck and Sarah's asset-handler relationship gets more complicated as they fall for each other. Chuck is also struggling to keep his spy life away from his normal life, but it gets harder with time. Fulcrum, an organisation, is the main challenge for the spy trio and they try to bring down Fulcrum throughout the season. And imagine Chuck's shock, when he finds out that his ex girlfriend, Jill, who he reconnects with after several years, is a fulcrum agent! 

Chuck comes to know that Orion headed the whole Intersect project and that he knows more about the Intersect than any other human being, including how to rid Chuck of the one in his brain! Orion turns out to be Chuck's father who was kidnapped by Fulcrum to invent a new and better Intersect, but Chuck, Sarah and Casey rescues him from them and Steve/Orion removes the Intersect in his son's head. General Beckman offered Chuck a position in the new team working on the new Intersect project and he refuses. Casey gets promoted to Colonel, but his special forces has a traitor, a member of The Ring, another villainous organisation. Chuck finds himself in the Intersect room with a dying Bryce, who asks him to destroy the new Intersect before it falls into the wrong hands. Chuck does so, but before he did, he downloaded the new Intersect to save Sarah and Casey from their captives.

Season 3 (19 episodes):

The new Intersect gave Chuck so many new abilities, but he has to train real hard in order to make sure he can count on those abilities in the spy world. He fails his attempt to become a real spy when he flunks spy school. The problem is, Chuck can't "flash" (use the Intersect) if he gets too emotional, and his relationship with Sarah goes downhill making him plenty emotional. A ring agent mistakes Chuck's brother-in-law Devon for Chuck, the world-class spy, and things get pretty intense until Chuck finally decides to reveal his true identity to The Ring operative. Shaw (another CIA agent who knows a lot about The Ring) and Sarah are together and Chuck has the help of Devon, Morgan and Casey to win her back. But Shaw is taken to The Ring HQ and there he learns that Sarah killed his wife, as her final test. Shaw goes rogue and tries to kill Sarah, but Chuck shoots him before that. Sarah and Chuck decide to date even though both of them are spies, fully aware of the risks. Morgan joins the Team Burtowski :D Steve, Chuck's dad returns and he comes to know that Chuck downloaded Intersect v2.0 and that some glitches in it is causing mental deterioration. Steve gave Chuck The Governor, a device which would prevent the new Intersect's negative side-effects. The Ring wants The Governor for their Intersect, Shaw. The Ring has infiltrated CIA and NSA and Ellie, chuck's sister comes to know about Chuck's spy life. Team Burtowski capture the Elders- Ring leaders- and exposed  Shaw. Shaw kills Steve and fights with Chuck- two Intersects fighting, and Chuck wins! 

Season 4 (24 episodes): 

Chuck starts the search for his mother, Mary Burtowski, who is also a known CIA operative who has gone underground. He starts investigating Volkoff Industries. Ellie digs into her family's past while Chuck tries to prove his mother's innocence. Sarah goes undercover at Vlolkoff, hoping to rescue Chuck's mother. Chuck and Morgan plot to bring down Volkoff. Casey gets to know his daughter, Alex, better. Alex goes into a relationship with Morgan. Chuck and Sarah are to get married, but before that, he has to put his own life on the line for her!

Season 5 (13 episodes):

Chuck and Sarah start a new private spy organisation called Carmichael  Industries and buy Buy More. Morgan accidentally downloads the new Intersect just when Chuck gets rid of the one in his brain. Shaw escapes from prison, kidnaps Sarah and forces Chuck to steal Intersect 3.0 from CIA. Just as Morgan got rid of the Intersect, Sarah is forced to download it in an emergency. The same Intersect that erased almost half of Morgan's brain. Chuck fears for Sarah's life. So he gives her a different pair of sunglasses and has the Intersect removed from her, but it was too late. She lost all the memories of ever having loved Chuck, let alone be married to him. Ellie tells Chuck that the Intersect can reprogram Sarah's memories. In the process to defuse a bomb general Beckman is sitting on, Chuck has to download the Intersect. Chuck takes Sarah to the beach they both went after his first mission. He told Sarah that Morgan had this crazy theory that if he kissed her, she would remember everything. And then they kiss! And thus ends the Awesome series! :D
